How to Open a RAR File on Windows 11
Windows 11 (23H2 and later) can open most RAR files directly in File Explorer, with a third-party extractor as a fallback for anything the built-in support doesn't cover.

Method 1: built-in Explorer support

Method 2: a third-party extractor

Double-click behavior
Whether double-clicking opens a browse view or launches a different program depends on the current default app for .rar. Change this under Settings > Apps > Default apps if you'd rather a specific program always open RAR files; see how Windows handles RAR files.
Troubleshooting
- "Windows cannot open this file" — usually means the archive is corrupted or the built-in support doesn't cover this variant; try a third-party extractor. See RAR file not opening.
- Password prompt with no way to type a password — native support isn't built for encrypted RAR archives; use WinRAR or another dedicated tool instead.
- Extraction seems to hang — very large or multi-part archives take time; check multi-part RAR files if the set spans several files.
