How to Extract Multiple RAR Files at Once on Windows
You can extract several RAR archives in one step by selecting them all before right-clicking, rather than opening each one individually.
If you have several independent .rar files, most Windows extraction tools let you select all of them and extract in a single action, each to its own folder. This is different from a multi-part RAR archive, where several files together form one single archive.
Batch-extract with 7-Zip
- 1Select all the RAR filesClick the first, then Shift-click or Ctrl-click to select the rest in File Explorer.
- 2Right-click the selectionChoose 7-Zip from the context menu.
- 3Pick "Extract each archive to separate folder"This creates one output folder per archive, named after each file.
Batch-extract on Windows 11 natively
Windows 11's built-in extraction (see opening RAR files in Windows 11) handles one archive at a time via Extract All, so for true batch extraction of many separate archives, a dedicated tool like 7-Zip is more efficient.
Many archives vs. one multi-part set
By contrast, files like report.rar, photos.rar, and invoice.rar are genuinely independent archives, and batch extraction is the right tool for them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I extract several RAR files at once in Windows?
Yes, select them all in File Explorer and use a tool like 7-Zip's "Extract each archive to separate folder" option.
How do I tell if my RAR files are separate or one multi-part set?
Check the filenames. Names like .part1.rar, .part2.rar or .rar, .r00, .r01 indicate one split archive, not independent files.
What happens if I batch-extract a multi-part set by mistake?
Extracting only one part on its own will fail or produce incomplete files. Multi-part sets need to be opened as a set, not extracted individually.
Does Windows 11's native extraction support batch extraction?
It extracts one archive at a time via Extract All; for many separate archives at once, a tool like 7-Zip is faster.
